Galvanized mailbox can be functional, but they need not be common. They can be decorated so that they add some visual interest to a house and its surroundings. Paint the landscape on a mailbox requires the same techniques that an artist would use on other media. The only differences are preparing and what type of paint used.

Instructions

Select a metallic color for your galvanized mailbox. Talk to a clerk if you need help identifying metallic color. They are available in spray or brush-on form. Select the colors you need. Remove the mailbox from its stand or outer wall and wipe it clean with a damp cloth. Use a dry cloth to wipe the mailbox. Remove any rust with a wire brush, and then wipe the box clean again. Use painter’s tape to cover the areas you do not want to paint.

Rub the outside of the mailbox with 80-grit sandpaper. This removes any existing color and makes the surface more receptive to the primer. Rinse the mailbox to wash away the dust and wipe it with a cloth. Apply a coat of primer and let dry in the mailbox at least one day. When it is dry, paint the mailbox in the color you want for the background of the landscape.

Make a sketch of the landscape on paper. When you are satisfied with it, paint landscapes on the mailbox. If you use spray paint, cover your nose and mouth with a mask to avoid inhaling the fumes. Let mailbox dry for about two days. Apply a protective finish for galvanized mailbox and let dry. Return the mailbox to his post or wall.
